Tip of the Week: Hard Logic vs. Soft Logic in Project Management

Tip of the Week:

Project Schedule Do’s and Don’ts -DO use Hard Logic and Soft Logic when assigning predecessors and successors:

o Soft Logic tasks can be worked in any order, but MUST be related to another task, assigned as either predecessor or successor. The best practices of your company or industry often determine how Soft Logic tasks are related. For example, Task A or Task B can be scheduled in any order, but MUST be related to other existing tasks.

o On the other hand, Hard Logic predecessor tasks MUST be completed before the successor task can start, it is logically or legally impossible to do it any other way. For example, an airplane pilot MUST complete Task A: take off, before they can complete Task B: fly.
