Alluvionic is thrilled to announce the addition of recently retired Chief Master Sergeant Craig Neri as well as their first DoD SkillBridge intern, Technical Sergeant Matthew Mahoney.

Retired Chief Master Sergeant Craig Neri, currently a resident of Titusville, Florida, comes to Alluvionic in the role of VP of Military Programs after a successful 29-year career in what he calls “the greatest Air Force on the planet.” In his military career, Neri served as Senior Executive leader responsible to the President of the United States to enforce global nuclear treaty compliance. Neri’s experience implementing large-scale, strategic business and growth initiatives will help position Alluvionic for success. Driven by a commitment to ensure effective utilization, health, morale, and welfare for people, Neri is a welcome addition to the team.

Alluvionic is a DoD SkillBridge partner, a program that provides an opportunity for servicemembers to complete an internship during the last 180 days of service to gain valuable civilian career experience. DoD SkillBridge intern Matthew Mahoney recently relocated back to his hometown of Melbourne, Florida through the program after a 12-year Aircraft and Program Management career at Travis AFB in California. Mahoney felt his Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and Six Sigma Green Belt aligned well with Alluvionic’s core business.

“The SkillBridge program gave me an opportunity to explore a career outside of my military profession. I received firsthand experience in the industry and was able to join a fantastic company that really welcomed me with open arms. It helped relieve the anxiety of my transition tremendously,” says Mahoney.

The knowledge and skill that recent new hires bring to the team follow in the successful path of earlier Air Force veteran hires including retired Chief Master Sergeant Alexander (Alec) Hall, and retired Lieutenant Colonel Jason Havel.

Retired Chief Master Sergeant Alexander Hall was the first Air Force veteran to join the Alluvionic team in 2019. As VP of Government Programs, Hall leads the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) line of business. As a trusted cybersecurity practitioner and project/program manager by trade with over 20 years of experience, Alec is taking the company to new levels of success.
Additionally, Jason Havel, who is a retired Lieutenant Colonel joined the team in mid-2019. Havel is a strategic thinker who uses his incredible knowledge and skills to pursue opportunities in his role as Business Development Manager. Havel’s successful military aerospace career has earned him awards and decorations including Air Force Combat Action Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Aerial Achievement Medal.

Alluvionic is committed to veteran employees as well as their family members. Wendy Romeu, President/CEO, holds veterans in high esteem, understanding the values and commitment exemplified by her Army veteran father. 7 Tips for Successfully Managing Your Team Virtually During the Coronavirus

 

Alluvionic’s expert project managers have been managing virtual teams successfully for years, so we wanted to share some tips to help you if this is new to your entire organization.

 

  1. Have video meetings if your network can handle it. This helps keep your team connected and helps to avoid miscommunications.

 

  1. Have regularly scheduled 15-minute “stand-ups” with your team. This allows you to discuss priorities and make sure your teammates are all on the same page and engaged.

 

  1. Send out updates as needed, but at least once a week to your entire team during this stressful time. This can be as formal or informal as appropriate, but it is important that your team trusts that you are keeping them informed.

 

  1. For larger projects and organizations, make sure each team member is part of a smaller team to ensure connectivity and communication. You don’t want to leave anyone alone on an island.

 

  1. Over communicate with your team so they will over communicate with you. It’s a lot harder to pick up what’s going on when your team is not physically together in one location. To keep that synergy, you need forced communication while transitioning to this new virtual world.

 

  1. Make sure your IM is running properly. It is important that your team can reach each other easily for quick questions. This can help reduce the number of extra meetings, which saves you time and money.

 

  1. Keep an Action Registry. With communication happening virtually at the speed of email and conference calls, it’s easy for tasks to pile up.   Keeping an action registry will organize and track your activity and can help you plan your virtual workday.

Alluvionic Hires Military Veteran Alec Hall as VP of Government Programs

Hall, a native of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, served 28 years with the U.S. Air Force prior to joining Alluvionic.  A cybersecurity practitioner and project/program manager by trade, his military career included 15 years of overseas assignments, 7 contingency deployments in support of military operations, 13 commendations for meritorious service, and achieving the Air Force’s highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant.  Hall also earned national recognition with the “Difference Maker in Cybersecurity” Award from the SANS Institute in 2015.   He has his bachelor’s in Computer Science from Grantham University, and maintains certifications as a Project Management Professional and in CompTIA Security+.

Hall says he’s thrilled to be a part of the Alluvionic team.  “I was drawn to the fast-paced entrepreneurial spirit of the team.  They truly believe that success is found in improving the journey, not racing for the destination.”

Forward-progress, an Alluvionic core value, is a driving force for our team as we strive to seize opportunities and achieve our goals.  Since our last newsletter, we have had continued momentum with the rollout of CMMI® V2.0, multiple speaking events, and training.

In May, I had the opportunity to participate in Florida Tech’s Space Technology Day ‘Small Business in Space Round-table’ with NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine.  It was an honor to be a part of this event, which allowed local CEO’s to discuss the capabilities of small business as it pertains to NASA, and to be a voice for small businesses on the Space Coast.  Our Vice President of Programs and Development, Floyd Capistrano, was a part of the ‘Success Panel’ at the Florida 8(a) Federal Contracting Conference in Orlando.  This was an amazing opportunity to discuss our road to achieve our 8(a) accreditation.  I was also honored to be a guest speaker at Florida Tech’s Nathan Bisk College of Business’s Management Principles class.  We are so thankful to have been presented with these opportunities to speak on behalf of our community, and to share parts of our journey.

CMMI® V2.0 is here!  This updated model is designed to meet challenges of the changing global landscape and enables organizations to increase ROI and to sustain process improvement.  Alluvionic has created the roadmap to achieve this new milestone set forth by the CMMI® Institute, and we offer services for implementation of the model toward accreditation, introductory and Appraisal Team training, Appraisal Team resources, and an initial Gap Analysis to asses your firm’s compliance level.

On Friday, June 28th the Alluvionic team, along with friends and family, spent the evening together at Howl at the Moon in Orlando for a ‘Friday Night Happy Hour.’  It was a wonderful way to celebrate another great quarter, and all the successes that we have had so far this year.  Thank you to all who have believed in and supported Alluvionic.  We would not be where we are today without you.

We are excited to announce our new partnership with Palm Beach Atlantic University.  We will be hosting our next PMP® Bootcamp at PBA’s Lassiter Student Center in West Palm Beach on September 20-21 & 27-28.  This course focuses on project management (PM) process knowledge, customized, real-world exercises, and PMP® certification preparation.

Employee Spotlight: Floyd Capistrano

“I joined Alluvionic because of the leadership team and the ability to make a positive impact on the future of a company built on integrity, family, and professionalism.”

Floyd Capistrano, the Vice President of Programs and Development, has been a part of the Alluvionic team for 2 years.  He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Florida A&M, an MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida, and an MBA from the University of Florida.  Floyd also has his PMP® certification.

Prior to joining Alluvionic, Floyd worked at DRS Technologies for 12 years as a Mechanical Functional Manager.  During his time there, he developed ruggedized military and commercial computer systems and displays, hand-held military communication products, and missile targeting sub-systems.  He led a team of 16 engineers through planning, development, and manufacturing transition of numerous projects.  Floyd also worked at Motorola for 7 years, and General Dynamics for 2 years.

His primary responsibility is to ensure high quality in the delivery of Project Management, Process Improvement, and Product Development services to exceed customer expectations.  This includes providing input toward resolving critical business issues and capitalizing on opportunities that align with company strategy.  He is responsible for the CMMI® business including implementation contracts and V2.0 transition.  Finally, he works to develop high quality project managers and engineers.

After 8 years, the CMMI® Institute has released a new model:  CMMI® V2.0.  CMMI®, Capability Maturity Model Integration, helps organizations in any industry improve performance, quality, and profitability by focusing on what needs to be done to align operations to business goals.  After September 30th, 2020, CMMI® V1.3 appraisals will no longer be accepted.  Alluvionic fully understands CMMI® V2.0 and can make sure that your organization has a smooth transition.  We provide services for  implementation of the model toward accreditation, introductory and Appraisal Team training, providing Appraisal Team resources, and an initial Gap Analysis to assess your firm’s compliance level.

Wendy Romeu Receives 2019 SBA Award

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s ‘National Small Business Week Awards’ for the state of Florida were held on Tuesday, May 21st at the Citrus Club in Orlando.  Each year, the SBA recognizes the impact of outstanding small business owners, entrepreneurs, and members of the community from all 50 states.  This year, Wendy was awarded the ‘Woman-Owned Small Business Person of the Year’ award for the state of Florida and the South Florida District.  We are so proud of our CEO for this amazing accomplishment.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine’s Small Business in Space Round-Table

As part of Florida Tech’s Space Technology Day activities, Wendy participated in the ‘NASA Florida Tech Small Business in Space Round-table’ with NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine and Florida Tech’s President Dr. McCay.  The round-table was made up of select successful CEO’s on the Space Coast, and the group discussed how NASA’s engagement with industries and universities will support the Artemis mission and the continuing missions, such as to Mars and beyond.  They also discussed what technologies and methodologies may be helpful to the organization, and how the capabilities of small businesses can be better understood by NASA and large primes.  Wendy feels honored to have been a part of such an amazing event, and to have shared this experience with other space coast CEO’s.

At the event, Bridenstine discussed NASA’s Artemis program, named after the Greek goddess of the moon and sister to Apollo, and its mission of landing the first woman on the moon by 2024.  Only 12 people, all male, in history have walked on the moon.  “Fifty years after Apollo, the Artemis program will carry the next man and first woman to the moon,” Bridenstine said in an interview.  NASA hopes that furthering the exploration of the moon will help the United States’ presence in space and strengthen international partnerships.
