Resilience in Leadership: When Preparation Meets Crisis

At the 2026 GrowFL Florida Companies to Watch Leadership Institute, Alluvionic President & CEO Wendy Romeu spoke to a room filled with founders, operators, and investors—leaders responsible for driving real economic impact across Florida.

Her session, “Resiliency: Focus. Fortify. Forward Progress.”, challenged business owners to think about an important question:

Is your business truly resilient—or is it just performing well right now?

For many leaders, resilience is something discussed after a challenge occurs. Wendy encouraged attendees to think differently. True resilience is not reactive—it is designed, built, and reinforced long before it is tested.

A Real-World Test of Resilience

Wendy shared a personal and professional moment that tested the very principles she was discussing.

In Spring 2024, her world changed unexpectedly and she was forced to scale back her day-to-day involvement in the company when her husband and the company’s EVP of Technology Ricardo Romeu was involved in a life-changing paramotoring crash. For many organizations, a sudden shift in leadership availability can create operational slowdowns, uncertainty, or stalled growth.

But that wasn’t the outcome at Alluvionic.

Instead, the leadership team stepped forward and took ownership, ensuring the company continued moving forward without disruption.

Alluvionic didn’t just sustain operations—it continued to grow.

The reason was simple: the company had already been intentionally structured to be resilient.

Building a Resilient Organization

During the session, Wendy shared a framework for business resilience centered on three key steps:

1. Fortify

Resilient organizations are built on strong foundations.

Fortifying a business means putting structures, systems, and leadership in place that allow the organization to function beyond any one individual. This includes:

  • Developing empowered leaders across the organization
  • Creating clear operational ownership
  • Establishing strong processes and decision-making frameworks
  • Building a culture rooted in accountability and mission alignment

When these elements are in place, the organization becomes stronger than any single role or person.

2. Focus

Resilience requires clarity.

When uncertainty or disruption occurs, organizations must focus on the priorities that matter most. Leaders should reinforce mission, maintain alignment, and ensure teams understand where to direct their energy.

This clarity allows organizations to avoid distraction and maintain momentum even during periods of change.

3. Forward Progress

Resilient companies do more than withstand challenges—they continue to move forward.

Progress may look different during difficult seasons, but strong organizations maintain momentum. Teams step into leadership opportunities, systems support continuity, and the mission continues to guide action.

Forward progress is the ultimate indicator that resilience has been successfully built into the organization.

Designing for the Future

Resiliency is not about predicting every challenge a business may face. It’s about designing organizations capable of adapting, continuing, and growing regardless of circumstances.

For the leaders attending the GrowFL Leadership Institute, the message was clear: the companies that endure are the ones intentionally built to thrive through change.
By fortifying systems, maintaining focus, and committing to forward progress, organizations position themselves to remain strong no matter what the future holds.
