At this year’s Women In Defense, Space Coast Chapter (WIDSC) Scholarship & Industry Awards, EVP of Technology Ricardo Romeu was recognized as the 2025 STEM Innovator of the Year. The award celebrates individuals who are driving innovation and making a lasting impact on the defense and technology sectors through STEM excellence.
WIDSC is known for championing education, leadership, and innovation along the Space Coast, and this annual event honors those who are making a difference from rising student scholars to seasoned professionals. Ricardo’s recognition reflects the groundbreaking work he’s led on FlyBall Energy, a mechanical battery poised to change the way energy is stored and delivered.
Instead of relying on rare earth materials or chemicals, FlyBall uses a spinning rotor to deliver quick, reliable energy. It’s safe, tough, and designed to work anywhere from the ocean floor to outer space. The technology has already drawn the attention of the Department of Defense, venture capital groups, and Congressional leaders as a promising solution to replace lithium-ion batteries across a wide range of missions.
In true Ricardo fashion, he accepted the honor with humility and humor. “Most of my inventions start with a mess and a minor injury, so getting an award instead is a welcome change of pace.”
Alluvionic is proud to celebrate Ricardo’s achievement and excited to see where his ideas lead next. From driving breakthrough technology to inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders, Ricardo continues to make a lasting impact on our community.
