When the U.S. Space Force (USSF) needed to modernize its outdated, paper-based rocket launch checklists, they turned to Alluvionic, and the result was out of this world. Selected through a competitive process for small businesses with innovative solutions, Alluvionic proposed a solution that not only won the competition but transformed launch operations across the Eastern Range, a 10,000-mile corridor critical to U.S. space missions.
The project, called Launch Checklist Modernization, replaced static Excel, OneNote, and paper files with a secure, cloud-based Smartsheet Gov system. This solution enabled multiple users to collaborate in real time, drastically improving efficiency, traceability, and error reduction. With a fixed budget and a 60-day timeline, Alluvionic delivered a
ll 14 launch checklists, including complex contingency scenarios, on time and on budget. The solution introduced never-before-seen features such as dashboard visibility for senior officers and faster GO/NO-GO decision-making.
Despite being the first Smartsheet Gov implementation at Patrick Space Force Base, the team overcame cybersecurity, cultural, and operational hurdles through strong leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and a deep understanding of change management. The result? A faster, safer, and smarter launch process that’s now an integral part of U.S. space operations.
The project’s impact didn’t go unnoticed. Launch Checklist Modernization was named one of just six global finalists in the highly competitive PMI Project of the Year Awards, recognizing Alluvionic’s ability to deliver speed without sacrifice and innovation without disruption.
